The World of Takeo Takei -The ILF Douga Museum of Art

This museum’s main exhibits are pictures for children, prints, and published works by Takeo Takei, a native of Okaya City. Through his “Douga (pictures for children),” Takeo Takei aims to create pictures that touch the hearts of children. “ILF” is an anglicized spelling of the Japanese word for “old (furui)” in reverse (“irufu”) to mean “new.” The museum allows visitors to enjoy the retro world of Takei from the Taisho period to the Showa period. Many works by Maurice Sendak, loved by children all over the world, are also exhibited there. “Harappa” on the first floor has a total of roughly 2,000 picture books that can be viewed free of charge.
